Erin + Chad: Horses…hay…happiness!

Erin & Chad’s wedding is very near and dear to my heart — it epitomized so many of the things I love best about my job as well as about Iowa — an adorable couple, energetic wedding party, loving/supportive/close family…. farms and hay bales and horses… ahhh I love that stuff!  A photographer’s dream!  As was Erin who made my job look easy.  She was so comfortable and easy going.  I loved her dress… flowers… accessories… cowboy boots and heels.  In fact, I have used many of their images for my marketing: the cover of Wedding Ideas, in ads, on business cards, etc.

Thanks to Erin’s heartfelt and vivid description of their engagement and wedding, I get to sit back today with my coffee and enjoy reading all that she shared.  Here is their story, in her own words:

“The proposal was such a fun night! I had gotten off of a twelve hour shift at the hospital (I am a nurse) and Chad surprised me at the front door, saying he wanted to take me out to dinner. He wasn’t sure what I would want to wear so he packed, literally, half my closet into the back of his pickup. He wined and dined me and took me to Grey’s Lake for a ‘walk.’ I have never seen someone so nervous in my life! About the third time we walked across the bridge, he pulled me to the side and got down on one knee (I always tease him that it was more of a lunge!) and asked me to marry him! I said yes, of course, and he put the ring on my right hand-  After a quick adjustment we went to call our parents! When we were deciding where to get our engagement pictures taken, there was really no question. Amy did such a great job- these are pictures we will always cherish!

Chad grew up in small town Western Iowa. He is a farm boy and a cowboy- two things I love about him. I also grew up in small town Iowa, but grew to love the country through Chad. We met at the University of Northern Iowa- we were tailgaiting at a football game and I could not help but notice his energy and charismatic personality.  I am sure he would say it was my charm and good looks that first drew him in ;). We dated for about three and a half years before we got engaged.

I think that one of the most enjoyable parts of wedding photography is telling a story. For us, the story we wanted to tell is the way our lives came together- the best way I could think to do that was to go back to where it started! The pictures were taken at Chad’s parents’ and grandparents’ barns where he did (and still does) spend hours farming and riding horses. Our family and the outdoors are such important parts of our lives- we couldn’t think of a better way to capture the two than on a horse in a big white dress! When Chad was a little boy, he bought a paint that he named Bart. He told himself that someday he was going to give that horse to his wife… and it came true!

We could not have asked for a better photographer- Amy was such a blast and never batted an eye at my outlandish ideas. My father-in-law happened to bail hay the previous weekend, and the setting was perfect- we had such a blast. The horses were a given- my husband grew up on horseback and his love for the big animals is nothing but infectous! The wedding pictures Amy took captured us as a couple so perfectly!

Photography was the most important piece of the wedding to me (besides the groom, of course) and Amy captured our personalities to a T! Amy was not your average photographer, though. She is fun and silly yet professional and engaging. She captured some of the most important moments in our lives, telling a story of both our day and our relationship. Her positive attitude and encouragment truly allowed us and our wedding party to relax in front of the camera. She actually got my husband to relax and smile- no small feat! We had such an incredible day and owe a large part of our memories to Amy! The day would not have been the same without her!

We had such an amazing wedding and had the opportunity to celebrate with our incredible families and friends. We had such a blast planning every detail of our wedding, from the cake and the dress to the photographer. Now we have so many amazing pictures to help capture our incredible memories. We recently moved to an acreage in Western Iowa and we are loving life as newlyweds. I am so excited to work with Amy again this fall at my future sister-in-law’s wedding!” -Erin

And I can guarantee I am equally excited to get to take part in another life celebration with this amazing, warm and loving family.
