Putting the Ahhhhh in Spa — East Village Spa

“We might not be the biggest spa in Des Moines, but we are the coziest”…. so demures Cassie Sampson, owner of East Village Spa, or should I say the Best Spa in Des Moines, as voted by Cityview Readers.  I myself am one of their devotees.  Massage helps me stay relaxed and flexible — important traits for a photographer dealing with wedding party politics and awkward shooting angles. In fact, following back surgery last spring I headed to the spa every week for massage maintenance.

“Our employees care about fostering genuine therapeutic relationships with our spa guests.  We offer feature treatments and products that offer great results and we pride ourselves on offering simple comforts like complimentary aromatherapy upgrades on massage, hot tea, and chocolates. We have won awards for waxing and one of our massage therapists has been recognized as runner up in Cityview’s Best Massage Therapist category three years in a row!”

The comforts may be simple, but the experience is far from simplistic.  Cassie and crew have thought of everything to the tiniest client-centric detail.  She is very conscientious about making those new to massage feel comfortable and at ease.  The spa goes so far as making a point to set aside time slots for last minute bookings by regulars who are in physical discomfort.

In addition to hands on massage, skin care, waxing and nail care, the spa has gone techno, enabling clients to make appointments online.  Their website posts details about all services offered, testimonials by die-hard fans, and even has a(n) FAQ page just to give prospective clients peace of mind.

Prior to becoming a massage therapist Cassie worked as a Certified Recreation Therapist for 5 years helping seniors, individuals with mental illness, and those with brain injuries.  She also worked in a chiropractic clinic and at a luxury spa before opening The Loft and ultimately, East Village Spa.

When not engaged in her civic duty of choice… that of relaxing the citizens of Des Moines (and no doubt cutting down on road rage and traffic mishaps), Cassie serves as the Secretary of the Historic East Village Board.  She also manages to find time to help animal charities, cuddle her basset hounds, and feed her passion of vegetarian cooking… and eating!  (Check back in upcoming weeks for more on Cassie and all that she does for our community.)

With two kids, one husband and a nearly-all-consuming career, I have found that the East Village Spa is not a luxury — it is a necessity.

if everything you shoot is as gorgeous in person as it is in your pictures, you must live and work in paradise
